Dear Members,
The entire medical fraternity was shook by the horrific rape & murder of a lady post-graduate trainee in the Chest department of R G Kar Medical College on the night of August 9, 2024. The entire state and nation was deeply disturbed by this gruesome event and people from all walks and strata of the society came out in massive protests. Members of the Bengal Obstetric & Gynaecological Society were also part of many protest marches and other events, in solidarity with “Abhaya”, her family and doctors and medical students.

Around 100 members of BOGS participated in a protest walk, along with Junior doctors of all Medical Colleges and general population. This walk started from College Square,via Central Avenue – Bhupen Bose Avenue, and ended at Shyambazar 5 Point Crossing.

The Members of BOGS participated in this program at various points like Shyambazar 5 Point Crossing, Golpark, Gariahat Crossing, Karunamayee Salt Lake and various prominent sites in Kolkata from 11 PM to 12 Midnight
Senior members like Dr Gita Ganguly Mukherjee, Dr Bulbul Raichaudhuri and Dr Kalpana Sarkar also participated in the walk and addressed the gathering, as well.

BOGS Members (50+) along with friends & families participated in a Candle light protest in front of Academy of Fine Arts from 11 PM to 12 Midnight . Dr Bhaskar Pal, our Past President & President Elect, FOGSI addressed the gathering.

BOGS Members attended the Meeting at Medical College Kolkata Meeting which was Called by West Bengal Junior Doctors Front. Senior Members of BOGS Dr Kanchan Mukherjee, Dr Abinash Chandra Ray, Dr Suranjan Chakrabarti and Dr Saktirupa Chakraborty represented the Society.

Members of BOGS (75+) participated in a protest walk along with Joint Platform of Doctors, West Bengal. This 6.5 km walk was from WBMC building to CGO Complex at 4 PM.
Apart from these BOGS Members participated in other Protest Gatherings and Walks In their Hospitals & Localities. Several BOGS Members gave media bytes on live national & regional TV. Dr Basudeb Mukherjee was called as a debater in Republic Bangla Channel. Dr Sukumar Barik penned several articles on the issue.

Healthcare Professionals of Private Hospitals invited us to be a part of a HUMAN CHAIN, which was formed along EM Byepass stretching from Highland Park to Ultadanga on the 3rd of September at 5pm. We participated in the human chain in huge numbers.
30 days and Counting
The Bengal Obstetric & Gynaecological Society had called for a “30 days and Counting” People's Rally from West Bengal Medical Council office to CGO Complex on Monday, September 9, 2024, demanding exemplary punishment of all the rapist/s and murderers who killed our sister 'Abhaya' and of the co-conspirators.
Handing over cheque
The BOGS handed over a cheque to JDF at Esplanade Mancha, during the hunger strike. This happened much late at 10:15 pm as many of us went to Bowbazar Thana to protest against arrest of decorator people/driver and seizer of wooden cot, beddings etc which were heading towards hunger strike ⛺️ area. Juniors were happy to receive it and conveyed their thanks to BOGS
