The 87th Foundation Day of BOGS

The MOCs for the programme were Dr Mouli Nandi and Dr Sohini Chowdhury.

The programme started with the 24th Dr Tapashi Nag memorial Talent Search session (Free paper). There were seven papers in Obstetrics and seven in Gynecology. The first prize was won by Dr Alka Kumari, Medical College, Kolkata. Her paper was on “Prevalance of Iron Deficiency in Non-Anaemic Gravidas in First Trimester Amongst Indian Women- A Hospital Based Observational Study”. The second prize was won by Dr Swadha Pandey, Medical College, Kolkata and her topic was “Use of Sterile Water for Injection in The Management Of Labour Pain – A RCT”. The third prize was won by Dr Arimpa Saha, CNMC on “An Analytical Study On Increasing Number Of Cesarean Section In A Tertiary Care Hospital”. The 1st session was chaired by Dr Kalidas Bakshi, Dr Subhash Chandra Biswas, Dr Sudhir Adhikari, Dr Swapan Kr Jana & the 2nd session was chaired by Dr Krishnendu Gupta, Dr Mumtaz Sanghamita, Dr Pradip Kr Mitra, Dr Sukanta Misra. These two sessions were judged by Dr Sajal Datta, Dr Chaitali Datta Ray, Dr Tulika Jha, Dr Arup Kumar Majhi, Dr Ashis Kr Mukhopadhyay and Dr Kushagradhi Ghosh.

The 38th Dr M N Sarkar Memorial Debate had two motions: “Routine Aneuploidy Screening is An Overhyped Investigation” & “Audit is An Important Tool to Reduce Hysterectomy Rates in Our Country”. There were six participants speaking in favour of and against each motion. The first prize was won by Dr Swarnali Das, Medical College, Kolkata who spoke for the motion ‘Routine Aneuploidy screening is an Overhyped Investigation”. The second prize was won by  Dr Yashodhara Ghosh, Medical College, Kolkata who spoke against the motion “Audit is an important tool to reduce Hysterectomy rates in our country” and the third prize went to  Dr Ariti Sen, Medical College, Kolkata who spoke for the motion “Audit is an important tool to reduce Hysterectomy rates in our country”. The competition was chaired and judged by the three Vice Presidents of the Society, Dr Basab Mukherjee, Dr M MSamsuzzoha and Dr Ramprasad Dey.

This was the first time that E-posters were presented on Foundation Day. There were a total of fourteen participants. Dr Subhra Chakraborty, CNMC got the first prize by presenting a case series on “Abdominal Pregnancy  and its Fetomaternal Outcome at CNMCH in last year”. Dr Debleena Chattopadhyay, CNMC got the second prize on “A Retrospective Observational Study to Evaluate Fetomaternal Outcome in Teenage Pregnancies with Hypertensive Disorders in a Tertiary Care Hospital in West Bengal”. This session was judged by Dr Runa Bal and Dr Mandira Dasgupta.

 

This was followed by a Symposium which was chaired by Dr Dibyendu Banerjee, Dr Gita Ganguly Mukherjee and Dr Shyamal Sett.  The speakers were Dr Sebanti Goswami who spoke on “Dydrogesterone- The Current status”, Dr Komal Chavan on “Manging Menopause with MHT: Through a New Lens” and Dr Abhinibesh Chatterjee on “Endometriosis- Role of Dienogest”.

The Inauguration ceremony was chaired by Dr Abinash Chandra Ray, President, and Dr Biswajyoti Guha, Hony Secretary, BOGS. The highlight of the ceremony was the felicitation of the octogenarian members of our society, Dr Kalpana Sarkar, Dr Nupur Chakraborty, Dr Monika Basu and Dr Runu Bhattacharya. They were presented with mementos and flowers.

This was followed by the 28th Dr Bamandas Mukherjee Memorial Foundation Day Oration, which was delivered by Dr Shalini Gainder, Professor, Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The topic of the oration was “Laparoscopic Eye to the Pelvic Anatomy”. The oration was chaired by Dr Abinash Chandra Ray, President, and Dr Biswajyoti Guha, Hony Secretary, BOGS.

This was followed by the valedictory in which the prizes for free paper, debate and e posters were given. The prizes for the toppers of Obs & Gynae in the Final MBBS Examination, 2023, MS (OBGY) and DGO examinations, 2022 of the WB University of Health Sciences were also given in the same session.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the joint Secretary Dr Amit Basu.

Two hundred and thirty six members attended the programme.
