World Population Day Program

On 11th July 2019, the society celebrated the World Population Day 2019 at Hyatt Regency. After a short introduction by Dr Dibyendu Banerjee, President, BOGS, Director of Health Services, Govt. of West Bengal, Dr Ajoy Chakraborty delivered a keynote address on Population Stabilisation in West Bengal: Current Status.

After that, a CME was held which consisted of two symposia and a panel discussion of different aspects of population stabilization and family planning.

Session 1: Working towards Population Stabilization
Session Talks: Dr Samir Narayan Chaudhuri, Director, CINI on Population control: The Role of Non-Governmental Organisations  (NGOs), Dr Bula Bhadra, Former HOD, Sociology, Calcutta University on Ensuring Reproductive Justice for Women, Dr Sushmita Sen, PSS on Deterrents in the Family Planning Program, Dr Debasmita Mandal on Medical Termination of Pregnancy: Preferred choice for Birth Control?.  Session Chairs: Dr Amitava Das, Dr Arup Kumar Majhi, Dr Saktirupa Chakraborty.

Session 2: We felicitated four Family Planning Champions

Session 3: A Panel Discussion on Population Stabilization: Beyond Birth Control was moderated by Dr Basab Mukherjee & Dr Sebanti Goswami. Panelists included Mr Bijit Roy (PFI), Dr Chinmoy Basu (FPAI), Ms Moumita Sarkar (IPAS), Dr Nandini Chakraborty (BOGS), Dr Mamtaz Sanghamita (BOGS), Dr Sharmishtha Ganguly (BOGS), Mr Sujoy Roy (WRAI & CINI), Mr Supratip Majumdar (FPAI) participated as panelists.

Session 4: Role of CAC and Contraception in PopulationStabilization

Session Talks: Dr Subrata Samanta on Comprehensive Abortion Care and its Relevance, Dr Ramprasad Dey on Newer Horizons in the Family Planning Programme, Dr Ashis Kumar Mukhopadhyay on PPIUCD Programme. Session Chairs: Dr Pranati Sinha, Dr Shyamal Sett, Dr Suranjan Chakrabarti.

The final attendance was around 110 including members from public health organizations and the media.

It was a nice program to showcase BOGS to many Public Health Partners. We look forward to developing strategic alliances with many of them in the future.
