BOGS Examinees’ Special Teaching (BEST) Course
BEST 2019 was organized by BOGS at Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, Kolkata from March 1-3, 2019. One hundred thirty five participants, mostly final year students, from all the medical colleges and teaching hospitals participated very actively in the programme. The 11 medical colleges represented were: Medical College, Calcutta, NRS Medical College, R G Kar Medical College, National Medical College, Kolkata, IPGMER, CSS College of Obs., Gynae and Childhealth, Kolkata, VIMS (R K Mission Seva Pratisthan), Kolkata, ESIMSR, Joka, Burdwan Medical College, Bankura Medical College, Bankura, Midnapur Medical College.
Faculty members from all the above medical colleges were invited. The number of faculty members was 78 including 7 national faculty.
The PG classes started at 9 am sharp and continued till 6 pm daily.The hallmark of the sessions was active participation and interaction by all the PG students with teachers.
Long cases and Oral sessions were held in the form of mock examinations where two final year PG students of different medical colleges were examined by two faculty members. The emphasis was laid on crossing and flying questions on difficult and atypical topics asked by the external examiners. On the spot instructions were also passed to the students on how to answer the questions effectively during viva voce or crossing.
Subjects ranged from PCOS to prolapse and hirsutism to ovarian carcinoma in gynaecology and from GDM to PPH and electronic fetal monitoring to episiotomy in obstetrics. Special sessions on dummy, fetus and pelvis, laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, partograph, MVA, CTG, USG, LNG-IUS and LARC were much appreciated by the students.
This was one platform where students from all sections and with varying backgrounds could interact freely and effortlessly with the teachers. Moreover, no student moved out of the auditorium while the classes were running—a sign of great discipline and keen interest by all concerned.
The entire programme was highly appreciated by all the students and the teachers.
