Public Awareness & Multidisciplinary Health camp at Patharpratima Island, 24 Parg (S) as Organized by BOGS with the support of the NGO Hindol, Kolkata
How many of the city dwellers seriously think of the very remote rural localities where there is no medical facilities within 60 kms and surrounded by river trees of Bay of Bengal with worst possible communication system including poorest or absent mobile tower connection. But MC of BOGS took up the challenge and decided to send a multidisciplinary medical team for evaluation and action on the above mention date for the first time in recent past with the help of one likeminded NGO- Hindol under the leadership of Dr Pradip Mitra, Past President,BOGS. It was a very hectic program having the duration from very early morning to almost midnight. Official registration of patients as obtained from two sources was 750 + but the various senior specialists never refused to entertain countess villagers who came after the official registration was closed till the evening before departing for Kolkata which was 178 km away. Apart from Ob/Gy other specialties were Pediatrics, General and specialized Medicine, General & Orthopedic Surgery, Ophthalmology & Refraction, ENT & Head Neck Surgery, Dermatology, Cardiology, Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation , Nutrition advice and few others. Investigations included Hb , Blood Sugar & BMI for all. Urea,Creatinine ,Uric acid ,ECG ( 71 patients) etc were done as per advice of concerned specialists. BMD was done for all above 40(69 pts) & osteopenia was noted in good number of patients .VIA and VILI had to be arranged in small house kitchen in a make shift manner and interest of the villagers to get it done was beyond imagination. It was felt that only a separate camp would be needed to cope up the demand. Nearly 45 cases in total were referred to tertiary care institution & 100+ to nearest sub divisional hospitals. Medicines were supplied to all patients which was the endpoint of satisfaction to all of them. Dr Suranjan Chakraborti, the energetic MC member & our beloved office staff Shiva were the special representatives from BOGS.
