A Public Awareness Program of NSS level
A Public Awareness Program of NSS level was held in Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata, one English medium sophisticated college on 27th September 2018 having the theme as Early Adulthood & Beyond.
This was conducted by Dr Pradip Kr Mitra in the presence of esteemed faculties like Dr Suranjan Chakrabarti, Dr Saktirupa Chakraborty, Dr Abinash Chandra Ray & Dr Rumina Bagchi. Although it was a girl’s college the students wanted to know about the boys as well. The program was started with the basics like General Overview of Reproductive System – both Female & Male, followed by personal hygiene including recap of Menstrual Hygiene and others. Common problems those appear at this age for both Girls & Boys were discussed elaborately with the inclusion of role HPV vaccine at this stage. Thought provoking areas on Life Style Modification as discussed were Dietary Habit, Cell Phone & Laptop use, Sedentary habits vs. Active exercise, Questionable areas like smoking, alcoholism, drug intake etc with their adverse effects and so on. Students were cautioned against the Killer games like Blue Whale to Momo to upcoming more attractive newer versions. Another area of discussion was on Career Vs Marriage & Child bearing / Live Together with relevant changes from orthodox ideas to current scenario as society permits with passage of time. Psychosexual areas and sex drive were discussed in depth to make the students aware about the unwanted circumstances. Unusual creeping up of thoughts/practice of Homosexuality & same sex marriage, Transvestism and Transgenderism were also discussed, as contrary to historic thoughts these areas are being gradually legalized by Supreme Court.
It was observed that the students were provisionally acquainted with these concepts and keen to know more in contrast to the ideas of a very few teachers who can provide only academics to the students but are unable to read their hypothalamus which controls their mind & body. To use up this platform for discussion of above mentioned sensitive issues to rectify their preexisting knowledge & thoughts became obvious when some highly impressive, interesting & deep rooted thought provoking questions were asked from the students.
The entire program was covered by All India Radio, Akashbani Bhaban, Kolkata with prior interview with the moderator, panelists & students which would be broadcasted on 5th Oct at 8 am initially and then many times in their Health Related slots.
