The World Menopause Day was celebrated on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Pratishruti, from 2-4 PM. The CME was organized by Kolkata Menopause Society (KMS) and supported by The Bengal Obstetric & Gynaecological Society (BOGS).
The programme started with a welcome address by Dr Nirmala Pipara, President, KMS which was followed by a lamp-lighting ceremony, which was graced by Dr M M Samsuzzoha, President, BOGS, Dr Bhaskar Pal, President-Elect, FOGSI, Dr Kalidas Bakshi, Past President, KMS, Dr Tulika Jha, Secretary, KMS & BOGS, and all senior members of KMS & BOGS. Dr Bhaskar Pal, Chief guest for the programme and Dr Kalidas Bakshi, Guest of Honor for the day, delivered encouraging speeches for the audience.
The first academic session had two talks: Dr Amitoj Athwal spoke on “Perimenopausal Women & Fertility Issues” and Dr Bipasa Sen spoke on “Cognitive & Mood Symptoms in Menopause: A Personalised Treatment Approach”. The chairpersons were Dr Kalpana Sarkar, Dr M M Samsuzzoha, Dr Sudhir Adhikari and Dr Suranjan Chakrabarti. It was a very informative session.
The second session had two debate motions. The first motion was “Menopause is The Beginning of The End”. Dr Queen Aditya & Dr Shabana Roze Chowdhury spoke For and Against the motion, respectively. The second motion was “MHT is the Best Solution for Managing Menopause” and Dr Bidisha Roychowdhury and Dr Piya Ray debated For & Against the motion, respectively. The chairpersons were Dr Kalidas Bakshi, Dr Saktirupa Chakraborty, Dr Subhash Mukhopadhyay and Dr Sudip Kumar Saha. Both the debates were well appreciated by everyone.
The third and final session was a case based discussion named “Stump The Experts: The White paper of International Menopause Society”. Dr Arnab Basak moderated the session and the experts were Dr Dhruba Ray, Poushali Sanyal, Dr Ratnabali Chakraborty and Dr Sharmishtha Ganguly. It was an interactive and enriching session.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks which was delivered by Dr Tulika Jha, Hony Secretary, KMS.
The programme was very well conducted by the MoCs Dr Shabana Roze Chowdhury & Dr Pushali Sanyal.
Fifty members attended the programme and it was appreciated by one and all.
